WEEK 4

Going the Sanctuary for the second time for my project, first I went to the city growers garden located very close to the nature lab. Because it snowed that day, the plants were covered in snow, so I could not really observe the plants closely. My mentor, Simone Johnson, explained to me that they put a bed of soil on the plants for the winter. If they didn't, the soil they used to grow the plants would be bad by spring. My mentor showed me ribbons that were on the plants to indicate that they were fruit trees. Although they were small, it was cool to see different types of fruit trees that I have never seen before.

Next, I also went to the loop house, which had a machine set up for a hydroponic system to grow plants, that was next to the garden.

Also, I got a tour of a building that was in front of the loop house that was currently used for storage purposes that would potentially later be used as an educational center.

After coming back to the nature lab from the garden, I discussed with my mentor about my project. I decided that I would like to focus on the topic of permaculture, as it was used for gardening the city growers gardens.

The professors in the nature lab advised that it would be best to post a web post about my project or do an interview on their radio station.

I am looking forward to meeting people related to permaculture to find out more information about it to inform others, including my peers.
